Woman Crush Wednesday - Mandisa Khanyile

The vision behind this blog is to celebrate women who are living their best lives as well as those who go as far as breaking the glass ceiling!

When I first learned that I could be a feminist, my reaction towards the person who first mentioned it to me was indifferent, but deep down I smiled fondly to learn that there is a word that speaks about actively redressing the imbalances that affect especially women in this day and age.

I hung on to the word  and was fascinated by the presence of Feminists online, I started actively searching for them and that was how I stumbled upon Mandisa Khanyile and have been following her online presence since.

Feminism is very complex, and I know now that I too get to navigate it my way especially through celebrating women like Mandisa Khanyile, she  is an inspiration!

1. Who is Mandisa Khanyile and what does she stand for?
Mandisa is an activist, with a focus on Feminism and Black Consciousness. She is a mother of one, an entrepreneur, an adventurer and a dreamer.

2. Why DotAfro?

“South Africa has the highest percentage of Social Media users in Africa, we use platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram yet we are all concerned about these sites taking our profile data, censoring our political views or exposing us to cyber-bullying. Now, there is a safe space for us as people of colour to express our views. – DotAfro.

3. Where do you see DotAfro in the next ten years?

“I see DotAfro as the go to social media platform for people of colour globally. I see us showing the power of African unity, coming up with a Black Agenda and using the space to rebuild our continent, heal and retake what is rightfully ours to flourish the way we were always meant to.”

4. Advice a girl child in grade 12.

“Never allow anyone to tell you that your dreams are too big. Everyone starts somewhere, just be self assured, believe in your dream and let it drive you to your destination.”

I find it humbling to do a feature on a woman as great as this, a woman with a global vision. To sign up on DotAfro follow the link below ;
